Finishing Touches to
Make Your Résumé Kickass 5 tips to create a résumé that stands out in the pile! We’ve seen all the information out there about writing resumes and by this time you’ve probably read it too. So if you can barely spell résumé and are just starting out, it’s probably time to bookmark us for now and visit your career center or one of our sponsors (the site has to pay bills you know). However, if you have a résumé and are ready for 5 ideas to make it shine, please read on. Have a professional e-mail address. Italianstallion819 or Crazychk86 were fun names in high school, but they show immaturity to employers. Your school gave you an e-mail account - use it! Even if you do not check the school e-mail system regularly, you can talk to the college techies to have school e-mail forwarded to your Princess4Life account. Just remember to reply to any job related e-mail from your school e-mail account, because your recruiter does not want to hear from pimpin4life. Google yourself! You already know the job marketplace is extremely competitive. Don't let something stupid online keep you from a kickass career. Google your full name in quotes (try this without your middle name, with only your middle initial, and lastly with your full legal name). If you have a popular name like Jennifer Smith this might be tough. Try using your name and high school, college, or hometown for searching. The fact that you got 9th place in the 8th grade math competition is okay, but the fact that your frat has you listed as "the walking disease" is not. It's time for a Myspace and Facebook overhaul.
While still in the realm of public space, studies have shown that no
company is too big or too small to do a little online investigating.
Your future employer can have kids around your age that may be asked to
find out about you from your profiles. Once again, think "would I want
my parents, teachers, or new boss to see these pictures/stories?" We
shouldn't have to say more. Hint: for a quick fix set your profile to
private so only your friends can view your dirt! |

school (sometimes she can be the most
